Recently, I hosted an open house for my listing at 2877 Ridgeway Dr National City, CA 91950 and I had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful buyers looking for their dream home. One of those buyers came to both my Saturday and Sunday open houses, expressing great interest and we had a great conversation about their plans and process of becoming future homeowners. It was a fantastic conversation and I was honestly rooting for them to make an offer and ultimately buy the home. He shared with me that they were not all the way ready and needed to take care of some paperwork with their agent and lender. I completely understood. Nevertheless, I was impressed by their focus and intention. On a human level, I also felt a connection develop during our conversation.
Sunday evening after the open house, I started receiving offers so I thought I would give this person a heads up email letting them know that if they wanted a chance to get in there, they should try to do it soon. Their reply floored me.
They started by thanking me for the heads up and went on to say the following:
Regardless of the outcome, I just want to say how much I appreciate your approach. I’ve met many realtors, but I’ve rarely come across anyone who’s genuinely considerate of the communities they sell in — or who actively works to facilitate transactions that strengthen the social fabric of those communities. Real estate can be a highly competitive field, and it’s inspiring to see someone like you thriving with integrity and heart.
I truly hope we get the chance to work together. If not this time, please keep us in mind for any similar properties in the future.
I couldn’t think of how to respond other than to thank them for their kind words and sentiment.
Their message reminded me of the pivotal role that real estate agents play in this world. It reminded me that even the smallest act of understanding and kindness can make a difference in someone’s day and in the pursuit of their dreams. For me, it validated my relentless adherence to an ethical standard. Not just an ethical standard for real estate purposes, but my human standard for ethics.
When I became a REALTOR, there was a lot of education related to ethics, a standard of care, and being a fiduciary and treating someone’s interests as if they were your own. I took that to heart in 2016 when I got my license and I have tried my best not to waiver from this standard. I received validation from someone I had never met before and they went out of their way to say these words to me. Perhaps I am reading too much into their email, but it made me feel proud of myself.
I will continue to do my best.
